    Description

Continental Currency February 17, 1776 $2/3 PMG Choice Very Fine 35. The fractional notes for this issue are smaller in size than the larger denominations. Elisha Gallaudet prepared the devices and border cuts for the fractionals. Benjamin Franklin's sundial rebus and linked Colonies designs were used and add to the appeal of these Continentals. Gallaudet (circa 1728-1779) is perhaps best known for his work as an engraver of the Continental Currency $1 coin. He also engraved several of the New York paper money issues, including Water Works notes. This well-printed $2/3 note has plate letter A and was signed by Samuel Massey. His signature remains bold. The design elements are quite attractive.
