Continental Currency April 11, 1778 $5 PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ.One of, if not the, single most important Continental Currency note to ever reach auction. The finest Yorktown note of any denomination. PMG has graded a single 64 Forty Dollar for the whole Yorktown series. PCGS has graded ten Uncirculated notes for the issue, with none grading above 64, except for the two 66s and this 67 in this auction. No current collector or dealer ever expected the appearance of any Gem Yorktown, let alone three in the same sale. This incredible Five Dollar note is the only Superb Gem Yorktown to be graded and is very likely to remain that way forever. Its only real competition were its two sheet mates in this sale, both of which fell slightly short. This is the only Five Dollar Yorktown graded Uncirculated at either service and at both services its closest competitor is a single 55. Listing the highlights of this note individually would simply be redundant...67PPQ says it all.
