Genuine James Wilson Signed Yorktown NoteContinental Currency April 11, 1778 $4 Fr. CC-71. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent.
The April 11, 1778 "as Yorktown" notes comprise the rarest series overall. This is a key note for specialists and autograph collectors since it is a Yorktown, making it rare to begin with, but most importantly it is signed by James Wilson, Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Most importantly, it is a genuine signature; he generally used an amanuensis to sign notes. This is the Newman plate note, but is shown at the end of the signature section for comparison between the two types. This offering of Colonial and Continental currency includes all six Signers of the Declaration of Independence on notes: John Hart in New Jersey; George Clymer, Francis Hopkinson and John Morton in Pennsylvania; William Ellery in Rhode Island; and finally, this rare James Wilson signature note. These are rarely offered for sale. Apparent and "Missing UR Corner," but desirable as the Newman plate note and the key "Signer" note.

A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
