DescriptionContinental Congress Lottery Ticket Group PCGS 58, Apparent 50 and Apparent 45.
The Continental Congress authorized Lottery Tickets in 1776. The Lottery was deemed a way of raising funds that would be less objectionable than further taxes. It was poorly received by the public as the payout percentage was lower than that of other lotteries common at the time. These are seldom seen and are a very nice association item for a collection of Continental Notes. Often these were signed by signers of Continental Currency. Two of the three offered here were signed by George Campbell who also signed Continental Notes. The Class the First ticket grades About New 50 Apparent for small edge tears; the Class the Second ticket grades Choice About New 58 and the Class the Third ticket grades Extremely Fine 45 Apparent for minor ink erosion.
