Continental Congress Loan Federal Indent September 27, 1785 $1 23/90ths Anderson 165 PMG Very Fine 25.
The first of a very nice collection of Federal Indents, or as they are sometimes called, "Hardy bills," these were signed by either Hardy or Hillegas, but none of the Michael Hillegas notes has ever appeared. These rare pieces were difficult to categorize and the nickname "Hardy bill" was used early on by some unknown dealer and has stuck to this day. Only two of this Anderson number have previously crossed our auction block, and one of those was from the Eric Newman Collection. The third party back label mentions tears, but these are all small and do not interfere with the design elements.
