    Description

Continental Army Commodity Bond. Listed in The Price of Liberty by Anderson as MA-22, dated January 1, 1780. These were issued to Continental Army soldiers to cover their depreciation of the pay that occurred during their time of service. These tied the value of the money to actual commodities, i.e. five bushels of corn, 68 4/7 lbs. of beef, 16 lbs. of sole leather, etc. Fully Extremely Fine and boldly signed by Gardner as Treasurer and Cranch and Dawes as Committee. Unusually high grade for this fascinating item, we can recall only one finer in our many, many years of dealing.
