Description

United States Loan Office Certificate State of Connecticut $331.30 March 11, 1793 Anderson CT-56 Very Fine, CC.
Serial number 7 of only 150 that were issued in March and April 1793. An agreement was worked out by the states to assume a portion of the Revolutionary War debt. This agreement also allowed for the nation's capital to be moved from Philadelphia to Washington, DC as the southern states took on a larger share of the debt. William Imlay signed this state debt certificate as commissioner and these are known as "Imlay Certificates." Rarity in Anderson is R5, 31 to 75 known. This is the first of this number that we have been able to offer. There is minor foxing near the top.
