Connecticut Interest Certificate £1 February 19, 1789 Anderson CT-52 Very Fine, HOC.
Payable to "Jona. Trumbull Esq." who was aide-de-camp to General George Washington from 1781 to the end of the Revolutionary War and also governor of Connecticut, 1798-1809. Some confusion exists as his younger brother was "John Trumbull" the painter of the American Revolution. There is also even a cousin of theirs who also has the name of "John Trumbull." This certificate is signed by Oliver Wolcott Jr, who would become the second United States Secretary of the Treasury from 1795 to 1800 and the 24th governor of Connecticut from 1817 to 1827. A neat piece of American history. An approximate half inch right edge tear is noticed with some soiling on the back.
