Connecticut Counterfeit May 8, 1740 Redated May 8, 1746 7s PCGS Apparent Very Fine 20.
A contemporary counterfeit that was once part of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection. "Counterfeit" is penned twice vertically on this example. Both the previous cataloger, in 2004 when this note was raw, and we today believe it must have been a very tough call on declaring this note a counterfeit. Still this is the first example we have offered of this number, genuine or counterfeit. We would like to point out that the Newman reference does not mention counterfeits for this denomination and date. We also see that neither Friedberg nor Newman is able to value a single note from this redated issue. The Apparent grade is for splits, repairs, stains, and partial backing.
