    Toronto, UC- Farmers Joint Stock Bank $5 Feb. 1, 1849 Ch. # 280-12-06;
    Toronto, ON- Bank of Toronto $5 Jan. 2, 1935 Ch. # 715-24-02.
    The Farmers Joint Stock Bank was an early institution that had been quietly winding up its affairs when its stock was purchased by speculators who quickly turned it into a wildcat bank that failed by the early to mid-1850s. This attractive $5 example is in Fine condition with a corner tip clip. The Bank of Toronto was in business for almost a century, merging with the Dominion Bank in 1954. The design of its $5 was used for decades, even surviving the transition from large size to small size formats in 1935. This example grades Very Good-Fine with some graffiti on the face erased and a small nick in the left margin. (Total: 2 notes)
