    1898 $100 Yukon Overprint Specimen

Toronto, ON- The Canadian Bank of Commerce $100 May 2, 1898 Ch. # 75-14-57as Yukon Overprint Specimen.
The Yukon was the undeveloped frontier in a country that was sparsely populated outside of a few cities in its western provinces. The region and the notes intended to circulate there have captivated collectors since they were first printed. These notes were issued out of the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Toronto and featured a large blue YUKON overprint twice vertically on the face. Graham indicates no examples of this denomination were issued for circulation, yet there are two known surviving Specimens, this one the finer of the two known. In addition to the deep blue overprint, SPECIMEN is printed in red twice one the face, with one hole cancel at lower left. A stunning example of Canadian monetary history. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ, with two pinholes noted at bottom and likely from around the time of issue.
