Description

Toronto, ON- Imperial Bank of Canada Counterfeit $100 Jan. 2, 1917 Ch. # 375-16-24C
"COUNTERFEIT" has been stamped across the face and the back in red/pink ink in three places and "VOID" has been roulette cancelled twice as well. This Canadian counterfeit was printed by the Germans during World War I for use outside of Canada. This interesting note backs that story up with an "Imperial Bank of Persia, Resht" rubber stamping (some of the stamping is light) at lower left. Resht (Rasht) was and is a banking center on the Caspian Sea. It is understandable that these German produced counterfeits would first surface at the "Gate of Europe." Each note of this counterfeit issue has a different serial number. Extremely Fine.
