    Description

Toronto, ON- Imperial Bank of Canada Counterfeit $100 Jan. 2, 1917 Ch. # 375-16-24C
A Canadian counterfeit printed by the Germans during World War One for use outside of Canada. This interesting note backs that story up with an "Imperial Bank of Persia, Resht" rubber stamping at lower left. Resht (Rasht) was and is a banking center on the Caspian Sea. It is understandable that these German produced counterfeits would surface at the "Gate of Europe." This example grades Very Fine-Extremely Fine with two "Void" roulette cancels and three red ink vertical "COUNTERFEIT" rubber stampings. The last example that we auctioned of this counterfeit was an AU that realized $246.75 in June 2014.
