Excessively Rare Exchange Bank of Canada $4

    Montreal, P.Q.- The Exchange Bank of Canada $4 Oct. 1, 1872 Ch. # 245-10-02b
An extremely rare note from this short lived bank, which failed in 1883. It bears a blue "Exeter" overprint. According to the latest edition of Charlton, only four 1872 $4 notes were known from this institution which bear any town overprint, (along with only three others of all varieties), and, of that number, three reside in institutional collections. Not surprisingly, this institution was unrepresented in the Flynn holdings. PMG Fine 12, with a few pinholes which are duly noted on the PMG holder but which affect nothing.
