DescriptionDobie & Badgley 1790 Livres (15 Sols) Private Bank Merchant Note. This is a very rare example of this Montreal, Canada issue and it remains in pristine condition. The note's French text reads: "Montreal 1 Mai 1790, Livres 0.15 ancien cours. A vue, Nous payerons au Porteur du Prefent la Somme de Quinze Sols ancien cours de la Province. No. 396. (signed:) Dobie & Badgley." Translated into English it reads, "15 sols ancient currency. On sight, we will pay to bearer of the present sum of 15 sols ancient currency of the Province." This fur tradering company had a presence in Canada dating back to at least 1666. Superb Gem Uncirculated with bold embossing and nice penmanship.
