DescriptionCharlottetown, PEI- Merchants Bank of Prince Edward Island $1 Aug. 1, 1889 Ch. # 470-10-04-04
A rare bank that has never graced our auctions before. We can see why by the values for issued notes in Charlton, as it will take at least a mid-four-figure war chest to acquire an example in low grade. Charlton states on page 260 of Canadian Bank Notes that when the eighth edition went to press there were only eight examples of this note enumerated and three of those examples resided in institutional collections. The current note with serial number 50998-A is not listed in the Canadian Paper Money Society Note Registry 2013. It grades PCGS Apparent Good 6, with a missing upper right corner from the inside frame line outwards.
Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000.
