    Brantford, ON- Bank of Brantford $4, $5 Nov. 1, 1859 Ch # 40-10-02-06, 40-10-02-08
Two beautifully designed, green tinted notes produced by the American Bank Note Company are contained in this lot. The $4 has a handwritten date while the $5 has a printed date. The bank only operated from 1857 until the 1860s and their notes were treated by the locals with suspicion. Many of their notes were released in the United States. The portrait at lower left on the Very Fine-Extremely Fine $4 is Lord Elgin. A flour mill and store is depicted in the detailed central vignette. A young Queen Victoria is represented on the Very Fine $5. That note also includes the Child with the Rabbits (also known as Boy Holding Rabbits) vignette that was based on the work of artist Solomon N. Carvalho. That design was used for a number of Obsolete notes in the U.S. A few pinholes are noticed on that note. (Total: 2 notes)
