Bath, UC- The Free Holders' Bank of the Midland District $5 18__ Ch. # 310-10-04R
This joint stock banking company was organized shortly before the financial panic of 1837. Less than a month after starting up, the Legislature of Upper Canada passed a law prohibiting the formation of any further banks of this type. Unfortunately for this institution, it was not grandfathered from the effects of this legislation, and, before it could actually open for business, the firm was forced to wind up its affairs. All of the notes known from here are remainders, which come in only two denominations, with both being quite scarce. Fine-Very Fine, trimmed in just a bit at the top with a tiny nick at the center.
