Hessler Plate Note 1847 $5000 Treasury Note

$5000 Treasury Note 1847 Hessler X115e PCGS Choice New 63.
The plate note in the Hessler reference, which features illustrations of only the back of this note on page 153. It is mounted in a card frame, and, like many of these early rarities, can be traced back to the holdings of Alexander Vattemare. One year notes from the issue of January 28, 1847 were meant to circulate, and bore the notation that they were "redeemable in payment of all public dues," which included customs payments, the government's chief revenue raiser. The note bears cut-outs at the left signature block, and a punch cancel at the right signature block. The reverse is a brilliant orange with the only flaw mentioned by PMG the punch cancels. The blue counter on the face is bright and vivid with the notes only flaw the small tear in the the UR corner which confirms this piece as the plate note. We sold the $500 example back in 2017 at FUN in a similar grade for $18,800.00.
