Currency Survey winner banks crisp uncirculated $1,000 bill from Heritage

DALLAS, TX -- Ohio collector Richard Beck has won a Crisp Uncirculated $1,000 note from Heritage Auction Galleries, the Grand Prize in the company’s 2010 Auction Survey contest.

“This is the tenth annual Currency Survey Heritage has presented,” said David Mayfield, Heritage’s VP of Auctions. “We know that the Grand Prize winners love receiving those Crisp Uncirculated $1,000 FRN notes.”

Beck’s fascination with the different designs on coins inspired his start as a collector in 1948. He used the proceeds from a paper route (as well as looking through that change for numismatic treasures) to assemble complete sets of the then-circulating coinage, as well as collecting Indian cents, Buffalo nickels, Barber quarters and Walking Liberty half dollars.

In 1969 he sold his coins and began collecting currency.

“I’ve focused all my collecting desires into (currency),” said Beck “My collection has many complete sets of series dates in most denomination of notes. I’ve always considered myself a collector first and an investor second. When I can’t attend an auction, I particularly like Heritage’s phone bidding system and have acquired many hard to find notes this way, which I would encourage other collectors to do.”

Mr. Beck ultimately intends to consign his collection with Heritage.

Several other collectors were survey winners, as well:

In Heritage’s special drawing for SPMC/ANA members, Bob Kosmo and Ronald Shiban won $20 Nationals in Choice Uncirculated condition. Three Second Place winners (from New Jersey, New York, and Ohio) each won the future opportunity to auction up to $100,000 of notes or coins free of seller’s commissions – a possible $5,000 benefit, while five Third Place winners were selected (from California, Michigan, Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin) and won the future opportunity to auction up to $50,000 of notes or coins free of seller’s commissions – up to a $2,500 possible benefit.
