Fr. 1310 50¢ First Issue PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. While 65PPQ is a very high grade and few perforated 50¢ notes will ever get there, we can't help but look at this one and feel it should have earned a few more points. We remember this note from Stack's September 1993 sale where this cataloger was outbid for this item by our current consignor. We liked it then and we like it even more now. A real beauty with huge margins and a wide strip of perforations outside the bottom margin.

Continental Currency February 17, 1776 $2/3 Very Choice New. A bright red pen signature is found on this Fugio fractional note that has superb print quality and incredible embossing. The important sundial on the face and the chain links on the back are as well detailed as the day this note was printed. If the bottom margin did not just cut into the design this would likely be one of the finest examples known. As it is, it is certainly one of the prettiest that we have seen in a long time.

New Jersey March 25, 1776 A beautiful example of this extremely popular tricolor issue. All the margins are clear of the design on the face, but are a hair too tight for the Gem grade. The back centering is perfect. David Rittenhouse, who was to become the first Director of the United States Mint in 1792, did some of the engraving work for the plate of this £6 note. His name is worked into the red border design in extremely small letters that on this example can be clearly seen. This is number 940 out of an original printing of only 3125.
