The last of five genuine "Red Back" Republic of Texas notes, all pen-cancelled as "Counterfeit" but clearly genuine examples. It was the particular engraving plate characteristics of this note, as compared to a known genuine note, that helped us determine that these were not counterfeits but were indeed genuine notes that had been mistaken as fakes long ago. This example grades Very Fine, with scattered pinholes but no other flaws.

Fr. 1227 3c Third Issue Horizontal Pair Very Choice New. Dark Curtain Multiples are very seldom seen, and this is one of the nicest we've handled. We sold it once before, in October of 1995. In that sale, it was estimated at $250-up, and it realized just over $300. Both notes on an individual basis, and the pair itself as a whole, are quite near full Gem quality. (Total: 2 notes)
