Description

Ex-Amon Carter, Jr. Serial Number 5 Dallas $10 FRBN

Fr. 1860-K $10 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Note. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
Our consignor obtained this note in our sale of the Tom Flynn Collection in 2008, where we noted: "The appearance of this note is one of the most highly anticipated items in today's sale, as Tom has owned this note since he purchased it from Amon Carter's estate after Amon's untimely death in 1982. It is one of the great small size rarities, as Dallas district Tens are rare in high grade and unheard of in Gem, with Gem examples unpriced in the new small size catalogue. This PMG graded Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ note is not only the finest example of this note we have ever seen or heard of, but carries single digit serial number K00000005A as a bonus, making this one of the very few fancy number Dallas notes available to collectors. PMG has graded only four Dallas tens to date, one Fine, one Very Fine, one Extremely Fine, and this Gem 66. If you are attempting to build the ultimate collection of small size notes, this is a lot you simply must take home today." Not much has changed in the intervening five years, with this note still the only Gem example graded to date by PMG, with PCGS now having graded one Gem 65 specimen as well.
