Fr. 1317 50¢ Second Issue Vertical Pair PMG Choice About Unc 58.
From the face, this is a perfect gem pair of a number that is rarely seen in that format. The About New grade that has been assigned for some handling and a corner fold that is visible from the back only. What makes this pair extremely interesting is the discoloration on the back. The glue from the bronze oval has seeped through and changed the orange back ink to a dark brown oval on the back of each note that is more prominent on the top subject. Why this happened on this vertical pair, and not on any other 1317s we have ever seen, can only be guessed. But it certainly is an interesting and colorful variety.
