Description

Continental Currency April 11, 1778 $40 PMG Choice About Unc 58.
This $40 Yorktown series note is the first of that denomination used in the entire Continental Currency series, and it is the highest from the April 11, 1778 resolution. The larger denomination was necessary because of inflation. The note's emblem with the "CONFEDERATION" motto and the All Seeing Eye of Providence shining on 13 stars was developed by Declaration signer Francis Hopkinson. Uncirculated $40 notes are just rare, a fact that makes a quality AU example all the more desirable. This is a well printed example with clear signatures and serial number.
