Three Per Cent. Loan of 1898 Interest Due Checks 6¢ August 1, 1898.Government checks of less than $1 are a collecting field. Checks of this particular type were issued to pay interest due on registered bonds. An example of this type of check with serial number A224374 is pictured on page 354 of An Illustrated History of U.S. Loans by Gene Hessler. The check in this lot has serial number A5027. It was printed on "U(nited) S(tates) T(reasury) D(epartment)" watermarked paper by the Bureau of Engraving & Printing while Treasurer of the United States Ellis H. Roberts was in office (1897-1905). Choice About Uncirculated, small internal tear and tiny edge nick.
