Description

Winfield Scott Signed Check Washington July 3, 1852 Not Graded.
A check drawn on Corcoran and Riggs. Payable to "Pew" for $10. At the time this check was written, General Winfield Scott was the Whig Party candidate for President. He had received that nomination two weeks prior at their convention in Baltimore, MD. In 1840 William Wilson Corcoran and George Washington Riggs formed the bank and by 1854 it was simply Riggs Bank. We have only sold a pair of checks signed by "Old Fuss and Feathers" and they are always well received. The central spindle cancel has been taped on verso. There are also some mounting remnants, penciled collector notations on the back, and a couple of pinholes.
