Lovely Fr. 99 $10 Legal
Fr. 99 $10 1878 Legal Tender PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.Three gargantuan margins plus a more than ample top margin that includes a partial 13 plate number at top center encircles this lovely plate letter D Fr. 99. This example is certainly fresh to the market as it was acquired by our consignor many years ago and we cannot find it in any census. This piece has to be one of the prettiest third party graded 64s that you will ever see and it looks strictly original through the PMG holder. The last Fr. 99 to cross the auction block at this third party grade level occurred in 2020 when a PCGS Banknote 64 realized $6,000. That earlier note looks just like the example we offer tonight. It is a plate letter D note with the same margins all the way around and a partial plate number 13 at top center. Interestingly, it is only 180 serial numbers removed from the piece in this lot. Therefore, we would not be surprised at the very least, if our current offering would realize the earlier winning bid, if not eclipse that figure.
