Description

Richmond, VA- Richmond Exchange Office-Jacob Ezekiel 5¢ Apr. 10, 1862 Jones-Littlefield PR60-700 PMG Very Fine 30.
Jacob Ezekiel is listed as a merchant in the 1860 Federal census and the note is redeemable in dry goods amongst other things. It is pretty clear that the Richmond Exchange Office is not the actual name of the business. The 1866 City Directory shows this as the address of Ezekiel's dry goods business. Unlike many surviving wartime issues, this is an attractive well printed note on bright paper with a vignette of Agriculture seated with produce and implements. We have not handled this design previously.
