A delightful 1928 $50 Gold is featured in this lot. Hallmarks of this charming example include serial number embossing, great face to back registration, and wonderfully vibrant ink colors. This series was authorized by Executive Order 6102 and signed into law on April 5, 1933. The Gold Reserve Act of 1934 required both large and small Golds to be handed over to the U.S. Government, but C. Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury, removed the obligations of this act on April 24, 1964. Thus, collectors are able to obtain them today. Our current offering is made more elusive by its high state of preservation. According to the PMG Population Report, this piece is in the top 4% in regards to grade of all representatives of this number encapsulated by the firm.
