Fr. 2300 $1 1935A Hawaii Silver Certificates. Uncut Sheet of Twelve. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The notes comprising this uncut sheet possess serial numbers 41964121 through 41966124 from the F-C block. Not all examples contained in this sheet, however, are consecutive to each other, as notes composing sheets of Small Size Notes usually are. The notes in the left column of six, which bear serials 41964121 through 41964126, are consecutive, as are the representatives in the right column, which display serials 41966119 through 41966124. This numbering system is unique to uncut sheets of Hawaii and North Africa $1 Silvers. In the wake of World War II tensions with Japan, the United States authorized the Territory of Hawaii to emit Hawaii Silvers as a form of financial protection during the looming threat of a Japanese invasion. The islands of Midway, Johnston, and Palmyra also joined Hawaii in issuing these notes, with the first examples being released to the public for circulation in June 1942. We are not often afforded the opportunity to auction an uncut sheet of Hawaii $1s, and when we do, strong bidding has been a consistent characteristic of each offering. In May 2025, a PCGS Choice New 63 certified uncut sheet of twelve $1s crossed our auction block, where it realized $10,200. The sheet in this lot sports serial number embossing on several of its notes as well as charming color. Combined with its lofty grade, these attributes should lead this delightful piece to outperform our conservative estimate.
