T6 $50 1861 PF-1 Cr. 6 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ★ . The T6 $50 was emitted from August 25 through September 23, 1861, as part of the first series of Confederate Treasury Notes authorized by the Act of March 9, 1861. This type was produced by the SBNCo with an issuance number of 5,798 examples. The T6 design is certainly aesthetically pleasing, with a portrait of President George Washington, considered a "Father of the Confederacy," at right,
Justice with her scales and sword at left, and two allegorical females,
Ceres (also called
Agriculture) and
Pallas (also called
Industry), conversing while seated on cotton bales at center. A green "L - FIFTY - L" protector completes the design. Printed on entirely original red fiber paper, this breathtaking piece is a true conditional rarity in every sense. Besides a vibrant green protector, hallmarks of this beauty include a nearly full frame, darkly penned signatures of Tyler for Register and Elmore for Treasurer, and bright paper surfaces. For its splendid eye appeal and originality, this piece has earned both the Exceptional Paper Quality and "PMG Star" awards. An examination of the
PMG Population Report reveals that our current offering is the only T6 the firm has certified at the CU 64 EPQ level with the "PMG Star" designation. Undoubtedly, this near-Gem representative was precluded from a higher grade due to a tight left margin. Nevertheless, a very strong bid will be commanded by this spectacular example.
