DescriptionChina Republic Russo-Asiatic Bank 10 Mexican Dollars 1914 Specimen Pick S492s
A uniface specimen of one of the best designed notes in early China, on par with those issued by the Chili Provincial Bank. Bradbury Wilkinson does an excellent job matching the bright underprint colors with the main intaglio color a deep sienna.
The Chinese name of the bank translates literally as the "Sino-Russian Righteousness Victory Bank," carried over from when the organization was still known as the Russo-Chinese Bank. The bank largely operated in the frontier areas close to Russia, but had branches in Shanghai, Beijing, and Tianjin as well.
This series of 1914 Shanghai notes denominated in Mexican Dollars are reported only as specimens, and no issued notes are believed to exist as the design was reused for the later "Local Dollar" issue. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 Net, tears in the margins.
