Description:
Heritage Auctions' Donation for the West, Texas Victims
West, TX - $10 1929 Ty. 2 The West NB Ch. # 13935 Serial Number 1
An explosion at a fertilizer plant on April 17, 2013 with the magnitude of a 2.1 earthquake leveled several blocks and sparked many fires in the small northern McLennan County town of West. Fourteen people were killed with a dozen souls being first responders. Approximately 200 residents were injured and all businesses and homes within a one mile radius of the fertilizer plant had to be evacuated. Heritage Auctions would like to contribute to the fund to support the families who suffered a loss in the explosion by offering this serial number 1 Type 2 $10 on the West National Bank. This note exhibits bold embossing, ideal inks, and bright paper. A brief history of the first few decades of the West Volunteer Fire Department through the National Bank Note era follows. WVFD was founded as the West Hose Company #1 in 1894. A fire wagon drawn by a black stallion was bought by the department in the 1890s and a few years later a two horse Modern Seagraves Fire Carriage was purchased. Later in 1915, a Cadillac Hose Truck joined the ranks. The 1920s saw a 1925 Reo with a 500 gallons per minute pump and a 1929 Ford Model A being added. This lot is offered without an estimate with all proceeds being donated. PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ.

$25 Limited Edition poster. All proceeds from the sale donated to the effort.

Special thanks to David Koble and PCGS Currency for assistance with this note.
