Description:
Unique Type for the Bank & County
Greenport, NY - $2 Original Fr. 387 The First NB Ch. # 334
This was the only bank in what is now Nassau and Suffolk Counties to issue First Charter notes, which gives some idea of how truly rural these counties were until the 1890's. This bank issued ones and twos only in the Original Series, opting to issue only higher denomination notes thereafter. This piece, which made its only auction appearance in 1995 when we sold it in our Memphis sale that year, has been off the market since. It remains the sole lazy Deuce known from this much collected location, making it the only Lazy Two known from Nassau or Suffolk County. Fortunately for collectors, it is a beauty, boasting great color, signatures, and inks. PCGS Very Fine 35, perhaps the ultimate Long Island trophy note for the collector who desires and can afford the finest and rarest in Nationals.
