Description:
The Only Known Tonopah Small Size Serial Number 1 Note
Tonopah, NV - $10 1929 Ty. 1 Nevada First NB Ch. # 8530
A spectacular piece which is the only Series 1929 serial number 1 note known from Tonopah. It is the "A" position note, the very first Series 1929 example issued by the bank and the likely reason for its survival. Pictured in M.O Warns' Nevada's Sixteen National Banks and Their Mining Camps book published in 1974, It has been closely held by the same family for more than forty years and is now being offered for sale to the numismatic community for the first time ever. Not only is this the only small size serial number 1 example from Tonopah, it is the only small size note from this bank grading higher than Fine. The last offering of any small note from this bank come back in 2008, when a $20 specimen grading Fine sold for just under $20,000. If that example was worth $20,000, then what is a gorgeous PCGS graded Extremely Fine 40PPQ serial number 1 that is the only small size serial number 1 note worth?

Needless to say I was overwhelmed by the results of the auction and I truly believe it was Jill’s efforts in promoting and displaying the piece that brought in the extra value.
