Description

Vertically Formatted Treasury Department Vignette Book. Pencil inscription on the title page presents the book to Edward H. Knight by George Casliear. Casliear's name appears printed on the title page as superintendent of the engravers. The book dates to the late '60s or early '70s. It contains approximately 140 Bureau produced vignettes and portraits, a solid percentage of which were utilized for various U.S. currency issues. The book is in excellent condition with its original cover tight and perfect, and it has a bear minimum of foxing stains throughout. The vignette appearing opposite the title page is a very large one showing a morose Indian weeping over an industrialized landscape.
