Description
Treasury Department Vignette Book.We sold this beautiful vignette book once before about a dozen years ago. At that time we described it: "An original Treasury Department book produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing between 3/18/1869 and 2/21/1876. This wonderful book has 110 full page vignettes and a specially prepared title page with the Treasury Seal. Apparently formerly from the library of Glenn Smedley as his light green rubber stamp appears on the blank flyleaf along with the date 11/5. According to a carefully prepared typed sheet which accompanies the book, a total of 44 of the vignettes were used on U.S. Currency and each is identified by page number and Friedberg design number. We have seen less than 10 of these books in total in all shapes, sizes and conditions and this is the first we have had the pleasure to offer [from the perspective of a dozen years ago, that is]. The overall condition is Superb with all 110 vignettes bright and clean." Since that time, we've seen a few more books, but this remains one of the very nicest we have had the pleasure of handling. A particularly important book due to the high percentage of vignettes that actually appear on US notes.
