When we sold this note raw in our 2005 St. Louis Central States Auction, we used the following description: "Only eight examples of this number are known, one of which is permanently impounded in the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank. Of the seven known examples, all are right around this grade, but this piece is one of the better looking examples. In spite of the accurate technical grade of Fine, this note which has all of its unmolested original paper has the appearance of a higher grade piece, due in large part to its lack of soil and bright colors. We handled this note twice before in our September 1997 sale, when it was a new piece to the census, and again in our January 1997 sale of the Cookson Collection. Only three of the notes have been offered publicly, several of them being known only from having been reported as being present in old time collections. This note is quite well margined and has retained nearly all of its bright ink color. When last on the market in December of 2000, this piece realized a healthy $71,500. A figure that should easily be surpassed in this new market for important notes." The total census has now risen to nine and this note, which we sold raw in 2005, is now in a PCGS Apparent VF 20 holder for repaired splits and tears. Its 2005 sale price was $97,750 and it is not likely to be too far off that mark this evening.
