Description:

PMG 65 EPQ Boston Red Seal Hundred

Fr. 1072a $100 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. This beautiful EPQ Red Seal $100 Fed has been off the market since Tom acquired it at a 1993 Stack's sale. The note is part of a small run that was purchased by this cataloger at a mid-80's Memphis show. Until then, uncirculated Red Seal Hundreds were all but unknown, and Boston was a very rare district in any grade. The thirteen notes from that run are all now listed in the census of the 23 pieces known. Only a few have been graded by the major services and sold at auction. PCGS has had two: a 63 which realized $29,900 in 2007, and a 67 which realized $34,500 in January of '06. This is the first PMG note from that short run to reach auction. PMG has graded seven notes from the run - four 64's, this 65 and a single 66. Once all that information is digested and contemplated, it seems pretty apparent that this note should realize...
