East Haddam, CT- Bank of New England at Goodspeed's Landing $5
This Gem Crisp Uncirculated $5 remainder includes a portrait of Countess Rossi at bottom center and a very detailed vignette of a ship in drydock at bottom left. Countess Rossi, Madame Henriette Sontag, came to the U.S. in 1852 and was known for her marvelous voice. This is the variety without the green "FIVE" protector panel. This bank operated from 1853-65 and became the National Bank of New England of East Haddam on July 22, 1865, charter number 1480. The bank was liquidated on June 27, 1905.
