Unique $50-$100 Virginia Brown Back Uncut Sheet

Lynchburg, VA - $50-100 1882 Brown Back Fr. 510-522 The Lynchburg NB Ch. # 1522 Uncut Sheet
One of the joys of cataloguing for a major currency auction company is the thrill of seeing rare and wonderful items for the very first time. While it does not happen often to your cataloguer after forty plus years of dealing and twenty plus years in the auction business, there is nothing quite like the feeling when the packaging is opened and the contents come out revealing an item which is both new to the marketplace and unknown to collectors. This uncut $50-$100 Brown Back sheet from Virginia is just the kind of item to set any collector's heart racing. It's one of only two uncut sheets of $50-$100 Brown Backs known from all banks in the country combined, and it contains the first $50 Brown Back reported from any bank in Virginia. To add even a bit more appeal, each note bears bank serial number 2, a strong indication that this beautifully pen signed sheet was tucked away as a keepsake over a century ago. There is a fold through the center of the sheet in the margin between the notes, but, save for a bit of light staining, each note is wonderfully original, with the embossing of the serial and charter numbers still easily visible through the PMG holder. Any estimate here is simply a wild guess, as no amount of money could replace this item once the hammer falls, but we would not be surprised at all if this unique PMG graded About Uncirculated 53 Brown Back sheet was bid up to at least...
