Fr. 97 Rarity in Extremely Fine
Fr. 97 $10 1875 Legal Tender Extremely Fine. Fr. 97 is a classically rare note. CAA has handled only two examples in our previous 38 sales, an Extra Fine back in 1992 and a Choice About New in September 2003. This note is one of only about a dozen examples known to exist, and it is easily within the top half in the census. No uncirculated example is known. One of the EF's was sold in a March 2001 auction by Lyn Knight for $28,600. This note might very well challenge that level, as it is a pretty, brightly colored example with good color and eye appeal. An outstanding rarity that no doubt, if it were a U.S. coin, would sell for many times that amount.Auction Info
