Unique Napier-McClung Signed $1000 Gold Certificate

Fr. 1219b $1000 1907 Gold Certificate Fine-Very Fine. Another unique item from the magnificent Taylor Family Collection. This note was in the Jim Thompson collection for decades and had no prior known history. It sold as part of the Thompson collection in October 1990 and has resided in the Taylor collection since approximately that date. This is the only Napier-McClung $1000 Gold in existence--in or out of government hands. None of the Federal Reserve Bank collections nor the Smithsonian, have an example of this note. The colors are excellent as are the margins, and the surfaces are 100% natural. The note's only defect is a dozen or so pinholes, all of which appear to have all their paper present which would permit simple conservation. Unique items are always a challenge to estimate and this piece, had it reached the market three or four years ago when a number of well heeled buyers were fiercely competing for items of this ilk, would have certainly exceeded the quarter million dollar mark.
