Description
Superb $50 1891 Silver Certificate
Fr. 334 $50 1891 Silver Certificate Superb Gem New. We sold this piece in January of 2001 with the description: "Just fewer than forty examples are known of Fr. 334, and all are circulated with the exception of nine pieces that span a group of 15 serial numbers--this is one of those nine pieces. We've had the pleasure of examining several of these, and we've sold three of them. The most recent of those was the Serial Number immediately preceding this note, which realized $26,400 in our sale last May. This piece is an absolutely Superb note, fully original, outlandishly broadly margined, with all its original color and embossing intact. Truly superb examples of rare notes do not present themselves on the market with much frequency, and the astute buyer looking for the very best will be well advised to make a serious effort to acquire this magnificent piece." Jim O'Neal purchased this note in it's next auction appearance, Lyn Knight's Memphis 2001 sale where it realized $26,400.Auction Info
