Description

Unique Series 1928 $10,000 Cleveland Note

Fr. 2230-D $10000 1928 Federal Reserve Note. Fine-Very Fine.
We sold this unique 1928 $10,000 Cleveland district example to our consignor in our May, 2001 sale, where we noted that, with an issue of only 960 pieces, "it may well be unique forever." The new Sullivan census confirms that unique status, as this is the only Cleveland district example recorded. While well circulated, it has retained good color for the grade, with its only real flaw a slightly rounded upper left corner. It last realized $99,000 in spirited bidding against a pre-sale estimate of $60,000-80,000, and, in a market driven even more by rarity and desirability, we see no reason whatever that it will not realize approximately the same figure tonight.
