Mid Grade 1869 Rainbow Fifty - ex-Bill Donlon
Fr. 151 $50 1869 Legal Tender PMG Very Fine 25. Rainbow Fifties are a rare and extremely popular one-number type, with only 62 pieces listed in the Track & Price census. This one is quite well margined, with excellent ink colors, but the paper, as is noted by PMG, is lightly toned. PMG also notes that the piece is "Ex Donlon." Bill Donlon was an early paper-money collector who turned dealer after retiring from the amusement business in the 60's. In spite of the lightly toned paper, the strong Rainbow colors make this a very handsome example of this ultimately popular type.From The Thomas M. Flynn Collection
