Description

Finest of Three Known

Tropico, CA - $10 1902 Date Back Fr. 622 The First NB Ch. # (P)10412
This extremely rare bank issued under three different titles in two locations, with Tropico being the first. Five large and one small note make up the entire census, with three notes extant from Tropico and one large note each from the two successor titles in Glendale. All except this example were present in the Colver collection, with the two Tropico notes each selling for $9350 back in 1999. The lower grade piece of the pair was reoffered as part of the Horwedel collection, which we sold in 2004, realizing $10,350 at that sale. The note offered here is the nicest of all, grading a solid Extremely Fine and boasting great color, sharp pen signatures, and wonderful overall eye appeal. Expect this rare Los Angeles County example to certainly reach and perhaps well exceed the five figure mark.
