Unique Double Denomination Small Size National Bank Note

Seattle, WA - $20/$10 Double Denomination 1929 Ty. 1 First Seattle Dexter Horton NB Ch. # 11280
Shortly after this note was discovered, it was first sold by Currency Auctions of America in 1999. It was the first small size National Bank Note double denomination to surface and to this date, no others have been reported. The Depression era story surrounding this piece may remain a mystery forever. It clearly circulated for a short time, and was likely set aside by a bank employee as few notes are purposely marked with a teller stamped date, as this note was in 1932. The stamp which appears twice at the left end of the note reads, "First Nat. Bank Seat'le July 6, 1932". There is some discoloration which is mentioned by PMG and a tiny repaired split where the note was likely tested for authenticity. PMG Very Fine 20 Net. In its 1999 appearance, a floor bidding battle ensued and it realized more than $90,000 in one of the hottest markets for ultra-rare errors. It realized far less the second time around and will again sell for a modest sum tonight when compared to the realization from that night more than a decade ago.
