Fr. 1383 Fractional Currency Shield, With Pink Background. A nice example of the very rare Pink Background Fractional Currency Shield. It's contained in a broad hardwood frame with a gold-leaf inner band and backed with thin wood planks. It is free from problems or water stains, and the pink color has toned attractively toward lavender. The Red and Green Backs of the notes are fully bright. A few of the faces have aged lightly, and the Second Issue 25ยข Back has faded as always on Shields. While not quite as rare as Green Shields (approximately 10 known), this Pink variety (approximately 20 known) is many times rarer than the normal Gray Background Shield which certainly exists in a quantity approaching 500. When we last sold this shield in January of 2006 it brought $11,787.
